Sister Wives appeal to federal judge to drop bigamy charges

By Kim Palacios hollywoodnews.com: The many wives of polygamist Kody Brown (first wife Meri, second wife Janelle, third wife Christine, and fourth wife Robyn) have asked a Utah federal judge to drop charges against them. Their complaint? Their family has been “hurt” by the looming threat of prosecution under state bigamy law. Court papers alluded to lost jobs, a move to Nevada, and severe harm to their reputations in the wake of police investigations made more public by their voluntary rise to celebrity through TLC’s reality show, “Sister Wives.” Fourth wife Robyn is reported to have sustained an unhealthy weight loss as a result of the probe. Though none of the family has been convicted of the third-degree felony in question (in fact, almost no one has recently been convicted on these charges), patriarch Kody Brown continues to push the issue, saying “our continued labeling as presumptive felons has proven a barrier.” Yet, their primary defense argument is far more basic than the current plea.
